Here at NPC I offer traditional video and phone sessions like most therapists, but I also offer text-based support for clients who need or want a little extra help.  What’s text-based support?  Pretty much exactly what it sounds like...

Text-based support allows clients to contact me between sessions via a HIPAA-secure texting app.  You can message me from your phone or computer whenever you want, and I typically respond in less than 24 hours.  Clients may reach out with questions about their homework, to debrief a difficult conversation, or just to vent about a hard day.  Sometimes clients use it to tell me things they don’t feel ready to say out loud yet, or to share thoughts they want to discuss more in our next session.  Being able to reach out seven days a week means you can message me right after that anxiety-provoking performance review or argument with your significant other(s), while the whole thing is still fresh in your mind.

Text-based support is not the same thing as traditional texting because I care about your privacy, and traditional texting is neither secure nor private.  Instead, we use a HIPAA-secure app to send messages back and forth throughout the week.  Because we’re not online at the exact same time, it feels more like email than texting your BFF, but I check my messages several times a day and respond promptly.  I don’t typically respond to messages in the middle of the night (as I am a human being and require sleep) but you can write to me anytime and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible during waking hours.

I offer text-based support to current therapy clients as an optional supplement to their in-session work.  It may also be appropriate for those who have completed therapy, but who want continued support without the commitment of regular sessions.  If you’re interested in adding text-based support to our current work together, or in transitioning from therapy to text-based support only, please reach out so we can discuss your needs.  Please note that text-based support is not a substitute for face-to-face therapy, and may not be appropriate for all clients.
